Ice fishing for big bluegills has been terrific so far this season.  Fish are being found in 12-14 FOW on the edges of the weed flats wherever there is soft bottom.  A Bro’s Bloodworm tipped with a waxworm or maggot is a sure bet.  If you aren’t getting bit, DOWNSIZE.  

While the bite has been good all day, the best times seem to be from noon to 3:00PM.

February 24, 2013, a bittersweet day for fishermen. Yes, the inland lake season has closed for Walleye, Northern and Sauger. This means the summer season is fast approaching.

Die hard anglers that love hard water can still enjoy fishing the border lakes - For this neighborhood that’s Rainy, Namakan and Sand point. WOW - ya gotta love it up here, a few weeks after the border lakes close the Summer begins.

Minnesota Fishing Report: Ely Area 11-27-2012

The temps have been way below normal and the lakes are forming ice. Most of the surface areas are frozen over and now we begin the building process. 

We can never stress enough at this time of year that no ice can be considered safe. If you must go out, drill or chisel as you go and always wear a life jacket or flotation suit. Four inches of ice will support a person on foot safely, but keep in mind that the ice thickness is rarely consistent. 

This weekend might see a few early bird anglers out chasing sunnies and crappies on some of the smaller lakes in the area.

We currently are stocking the shop with all of the latest tackle and gear that you'll need for the upcoming ice season. 

We carry StrikeMaster and Eskimo augers, and electronics by Marcum, Vexilar, and Humminbird and we also have live bait on hand from waxies to minnows and ciscoes too for the early ice pike bite.

Minnesota Fishing Report: Kabetogama-Namakan 11-12-2012

Looks like fall fishing is coming to an end, only a few durable anglers testing the waters this past week.

The lake is ready to freeze over once we string a few cold days together, could happen most anytime. Folks waiting for safe hard water now.

Deer hunters having an all around average season. This year’s bucks seem to be a little smaller weight-wise and rack-wise, local hunters think this is a trend.

Kabetogama-Namakan Fishing Report 11-4-2012

Only a few anglers around this week, those hitting the lake are splitting time with their passion for hunting.

Slow fishing this past week, including for those netting whitefish. Water temperatures hanging around the high 30’s, some shorelines freezing at night, hard water not too far out.

Deer hunting season about like last year, few bucks being taken lots of does and yearlings being spotted.

No wolves registered here and our big buck is 205.8# dressed. Big rack thus far is a 12 pointer.
